Idyllic Christmas
My cat's a diabetic now.

Well, he's apparently been a diabetic for a while now, but you know what I mean. He's been very sluggish of late (I may have mentioned that), so we took him to the vet last week for a checkup. According to the doctor the blood test came back that he has kitty diabetes. So he had to go back to the vet again today for another set of tests and insulin dosages, but he's home safe and sound now with a big box of syringes, a bottle of insulin and some dietetic food.

So here's where the lame comes in. You, apparently, can't give cats insulin in pill form so it HAS to be injected.

I hate needles.

Christopher won't be home at the times the cat needs injections.

Stephen also hates needles and is a wussy with anything that might be uncomfortable for the pets.

One of us has to inject the cat. Guess who got elected? Mmhmm. This is what happens when you accidentally become the go-to guy for problems with the animals in the house. Ever since that thing with Chevy, whenever something's wrong with our four legged friends, people are all "Jason, do something!"

I really hate needles. I really, really hate them. I nearly fainted when I had my blood drawn recently. It isn't the pain, it's the expectation.

Except that second time I had my blood drawn where the stupid woman couldn't find the damned vein and stabbed me THREE times and kept MOVING THE NEEDLE AROUND INSIDE MY ARM.

That one was all about the pain.

Anyways, at the vet's office they showed me how to fill the needle and how to inject the cat and had me do it twice (once with sterile water for practice and once with his actual insulin). It wasn't as bad as I feared, but I still am not keen on it. My first unassisted run will be tomorrow morning and I'm not looking forward to it.

I could never be a heroin user. Needles just...shudder. Needles are my anti-drug. That's some sort of existentialist crapola right there.

I'm digressing. The long and short of it is the cat's fine and hopefully he should be back to his old self in a few weeks once his levels rebalance. So yay for that. And the vet says he might not have to stay on the insulin forever...he might only have to be on it for about five weeks or so if things go well. So double yay.

I really hate needles.

Oh, damn. That's tough. :( I don't think I could handle it. I hope it goes well, but cats aren't really renowned for cooperating.

Actually, Tiger is cool as the other side of the pillow about it. Both times I did it at the vet's office he didn't fight, he didn't flinch, he didn't even meow. He just sat there and gave me that "are we done yet?" look.

Most of my concerns about it were that he was going to fight and bite and run, but he really doesn't seem to be too worried about it, which is what the vet said, so I'm feeling mostly okay about it.

I daresay he doesn't care because he's getting injected into his thick, thick backfat.

I love my cat, I do, but we don't call him "Catso" for no reason...

*chuckles* Well, that's good. At least two of mine would need to be turned into kitty burritos if we were going to try that.
